AUDITING

All control strategies tend to deteriorate over time, or become obsolete, as a result of change – either in technology, staff or working practices. This calls for the regular monitoring of health and safety control systems to ensure their relativity and effectiveness. Health and safety auditing can be likened to financial auditing or third’party quality auditing. Effective health and safety audits provide an assessment of the validity and reliability of the management planning and control systems.

HASCOM offers health and safety audits which validate management systems. They give management information about how things are really working, and test reality against management's own performance standards.

An audit provides a useful measure of the reliability, efficiency and effectiveness of the arrangements made to manage health and safety at work: policy making, organisation, planning, implementation, measurement and review. HS(G)65, OHSAS 18001 and BS 8800 require review of this kind as the ‘feedback loop’ for management.

Before you buy an ’off the shelf’ audit, remember that HASCOM’s audits are

  • Designed with our clients to evaluate the extent of compliance with official guidance

All of HASCOM’s audit staff are qualified and competent and are corporate members of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, the UK's professional body for health and safety practitioners.
